Respite Care

About Respite Care

Respite care is designed to help family members take a break from their daily routine of care giving, alleviating the overwhelming feeling of stress and exhaustion that are often experienced by many. Taking care of a family member or other person who is disabled or sick can be physically, mentally, and emotionally draining but it can also be rewarding as well. The rewards often outweigh the feelings of burnout.

Why Respite Care

is Important

It is very important for the family caregiver(s) to take some time off for themselves. This is where in-home care comes in and is able to relieve the family from their responsibilities. A person must take care of themselves before they can take care of anyone else. One study found that as many as one in three family caregivers rate their stress level as high, and say they have less time to spend with other family members or friends. Some families only need once a week relief, while others need as much as a week or two vacation times. This all depends on the family needs, their stress level, and the level of care needed for their loved one(s).

How Our Employees Can Help

Stress Free Home Care aides are CPR certified as well as formally trained with in home care skills. During the initial assessment by a registered nurse, the family will be able to list and request what services the client will need and might want throughout the shift. A care plan will be established according to the level of care needed. Our aides will then follow the care plan for all services requested. Services may include medication reminders, assistance with bathing, personal hygiene assistance with dressing, monitoring vital signs, light house cleaning, taking out the trash, laundry, changing linens, picking up prescriptions, doctors appointment, monitoring food expiration, supervise household maintenance, grocery shipping, errands, reinforce PT therapy, companionship, reading, attending church or social events, preparing meals, monitoring nutrition and fluid intake: to avoid dehydration and weight loss. Our caregivers are much more than in-home aides. They are able to form a trusting relationship with the clients due to our privacy policies. Clients and care givers eventually form a friendship, and really enjoy each other’s company. Companionship is one of the services listed above, but it is one of the most important of all.

The Benefits of Respite Care

Taking care of yourself and spending time away from your loved one is one of the most important things you can do for your loved one. As said above, you need to take care of yourself in order for you to provide care to your loved one.
